Star-billing is given to the GIs who were in the audiences for the Bob Hope Shows during World War II in BOB HOPE: MEMORIES OF WORLD WAR II.
Sharing memories with Bob are Dolores Hope, singer Frances Langford and dancer Patty Thomas, who accompanied Hope on many of his trips.
The show features never-before-seen footage and photos of Hope entertaining the troops with Langford, Thomas and Jerry Colonna, among others. The special features excerpts from some of the letters Bob received from GIs and their families.
No one is more closely associated with the American GI than Bob Hope. The tradition began in 1941 when the country was still at peace. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor Hope took his radio shows to camps and air bases all over the country. In 1943 he started his overseas USO shows to England, the Continent, North Africa, the South Pacific, Alaska, Iceland - wherever the GI was training or fighting. (A tradition he continued through Desert Storm.)
Bob Hope is the executive producer of the special. Linda Hope is producer. Nancy Malone directed from a script from Melville Shavelson. The special is from Hope Enterprises, Inc.
